Epoxies can be a good choice when a utilitarian floor coating is required - properly installed they are easily cleaned, seamless and chemically resistant.
As with all floor coatings, surface preparation is essential. Diamond grinding is required for surface preparation, as it will remove surface laitance and contaminants, such as concrete curing agents. It also avoids some of the risks associated with acid etching (which includes but is not limited to; health and disposal risks, the creation of a weak dusty layer, and the persistence of acidity).
For a concrete surface which has been previously ground, it should be degreased and thoroughly pressure cleaned. This may seem onerous, but is infinitely preferable to a poorly adhered surface coating, which will disappoint both expectations of appearance and effectiveness and will be a waste of time and money.
A semi-matte appearance can be achieved with a water-borne epoxy, such as Tecseal WB. This product is available in clear and concrete grey. Being semi-matte, dust and scratches are less noticeable relative to a shinier surface. We have several types of 100% solids epoxies (i.e. not water-borne). These include Megapoxy MC, Megapoxy 132 and Megapoxy H. These result in a thicker coating for the same application rate, and finish quite shiny. The greater dry film thickness means that it will take heavy traffic and wear better relative to thinner products of the same hardness, and these can be used with slip-resistant granules (broadcast into wet coat).
We do not supply flake for flake floors or more decorative finishes.
